From Slate to iPad is the story of Bill Wallace, in his own words: ‘My family have always shown an interest in what I have done, and particularly how we did things at the time. However, the children didn’t always believe me. How on earth did my generation cope with social issues without modern devices? What did we eat, and how did we manage our lives without iPads? How did we arrange to meet friends, or change plans on the fly?’

Bill trusted us with his precious memories. Our editor gave him the time and respect his story deserved, which encouraged him to write about parts of his life he felt ‘nobody would care’ about, and provided him with the structure and guidance that every first-time writer needs.

The result is a memoir that Bill’s family are proud to call their own — and one that others just might enjoy too. For Bill, the greatest reward was not just the book itself, but the journey of understanding who he was and who he has become. That is what we set out to do, and by all accounts, we did.

Memoirs and biographies, Bill Wallace, Hyphen publisher

I have nothing but praise for Hyphen. I took my raw story to them, naively expecting them to just make a few changes to the stories that I had written over the years and produce a readable book for relatives and friends to hopefully enjoy. This did not quite happen as I had envisaged; it was enormously better in every respect.
